The not-to-be-missed event in Burgundy in November
Every year, the famous Hospices de Beaune organise a major auction of their most prestigious wines. Throughout the weekend, festivities take place throughout the town (and even in the towns around Beaune) to celebrate Burgundy wines. Numerous wine cellars open their doors to the public (which is quite rare during the rest of the year) to show off their treasures to the curious onlookers passing through, but also to the locals for whom this festival is an unmissable event. Proof of this well-established tradition is that 2023 will be the 163rd Wine Sale, no less!
What is the Hospices Wine Sale?
It is the most famous charity wine sale in the world. Every year, on the third Sunday in November, it’s time for the big auction. Amateurs, professionals, tourists: this traditional event is a highlight in Burgundy. Several crus are put up for sale under Les Halles in the heart of Beaune, including one very special one: the pièce de charité. Each year, it is sold in aid of a charity, and its price can break records. The auction of this important piece is led by one or two celebrities, often actors.
Although the sale is open to the public, it is not necessarily for everyone. The items being auctioned are whole barrels. When you know the price of a bottle of Burgundy wine, that says a lot about how much you have to spend to get one of these precious pieces 🙂

Is this Le Bout du Monde?
Here’s a place that lives up to its name. Between vineyards and meadows, the limestone cliffs of Cormot form a breathtaking natural cirque. Here, the hiker is king and the climber is blessed with some 346 routes, rated from 4b to 7c, and from 25m to 45m. Although the site is accessible all year round, spring and summer are the perfect seasons for climbing on this admittedly unique listed site. The cliffs at Le Bout du Monde offer different orientations, so you can escape the summer sun that might be a little too strong.
A handy little extra: Le Bout du Monde can be reached directly from Les Cabottes via the greenway heading towards Nolay.
Hiking, cycling, climbing, golf: what sporting activity can you enjoy during your stay?

Our pretty corner of Burgundy is well known for its famous vineyards (and for good reason!), but it also abounds in a wide variety of treasures, starting with its many sporting activities. At Les Cabottes, we’re pretty lucky in that our estate is at the heart of many walking and hiking trails, the voie verte is just 100m away, and the Cirque du Bout du Monde is only a few minutes away by car – so we’re ideally situated for all sports lovers.
30 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours: discover the walking routes from Les Cabottes
Want to get away from it all without having to get back in the car after you’ve arrived? If so, we’ve put together a list of the prettiest itineraries that start directly from our estate – they’re all available in the welcome booklet in each of our accommodations, but we’ve included them here so that you can read about them before you arrive. That way, if you feel like arriving a few hours before your check-in time to enjoy the surrounding area, you can easily put together a programme to suit your tastes.
Discovering the vineyards and canals by electric bike
What better way to explore our beautiful region than by electric bike? In slow life mode, take the greenway 100m from Les Cabottes and then cycle through the most beautiful wine-producing villages in the area, such as Santenay, Meursault and Pommard (all without having to take the usual route, as the greenway takes you from Change to Beaune, which is very practical!) And what’s even more practical is that you can hire electric bikes directly from us, by the half-day (morning or afternoon) or by the day. When you pick up your bikes, we’ll give you a map of the surrounding area so you can plan your route, and we’ll point out the pretty spots you don’t want to miss. You can ride through vineyards, along canals or stop off at Meursault in the footsteps of La Grande Vadrouille.
Head for Le Bout du monde, yes yes! A natural cirque bordered by limestone cliffs, this unique natural site in Burgundy is a splendid place for walking but also, and above all, for climbing. 346 routes rated from 4b to 7c, from 25m to 45m, nothing less! Whether you’re an amateur or a professional, everyone agrees that this is one of the best climbing spots in France. Accessible in just a few minutes by car or by bike along the “voie verte” from Les Cabottes, Le Cirque du Bout du Monde will leave you speechless, especially with its pretty waterfall which falls masterfully from the top of the cliffs when the drought is not on.
A short drive along the splendid Route des Grands Crus will take you to Levernois. Just 30 minutes from Les Cabottes, the Golf de Beaune/Levernois boasts a delightful rural setting with its nine lakes and thousands of trees lining its pretty green carpet. Accessible to all levels with its advanced tee-offs, the Golf de Levernois course is over 6km long. For information and bookings, click here.
Now that you know all about the great sports programme around Les Cabottes, all you have to do is choose the accommodation where you’ll be staying (if you haven’t already done so) – see you soon in Burgundy!
