Hiking, cycling, climbing, golf: what sporting activity can you enjoy during your stay?

Our pretty corner of Burgundy is well known for its famous vineyards (and for good reason!), but it also abounds in a wide variety of treasures, starting with its many sporting activities. At Les Cabottes, we’re pretty lucky in that our estate is at the heart of many walking and hiking trails, the voie verte is just 100m away, and the Cirque du Bout du Monde is only a few minutes away by car – so we’re ideally situated for all sports lovers.

30 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours: discover the walking routes from Les Cabottes

Want to get away from it all without having to get back in the car after you’ve arrived? If so, we’ve put together a list of the prettiest itineraries that start directly from our estate – they’re all available in the welcome booklet in each of our accommodations, but we’ve included them here so that you can read about them before you arrive. That way, if you feel like arriving a few hours before your check-in time to enjoy the surrounding area, you can easily put together a programme to suit your tastes.

Discovering the vineyards and canals by electric bike

What better way to explore our beautiful region than by electric bike? In slow life mode, take the greenway 100m from Les Cabottes and then cycle through the most beautiful wine-producing villages in the area, such as Santenay, Meursault and Pommard (all without having to take the usual route, as the greenway takes you from Change to Beaune, which is very practical!) And what’s even more practical is that you can hire electric bikes directly from us, by the half-day (morning or afternoon) or by the day. When you pick up your bikes, we’ll give you a map of the surrounding area so you can plan your route, and we’ll point out the pretty spots you don’t want to miss. You can ride through vineyards, along canals or stop off at Meursault in the footsteps of La Grande Vadrouille.

Between its vineyards, its old stones, its natural parks and its pretty towns containing many treasures, we propose a non-exhaustive list of visits to make in the surroundings of Les Cabottes:

1/ The Hospices de Beaune, a veritable emblem of the town (and the region) thanks to its recognisable glazed tiles, its unique architecture inspired by that of Flanders (and its appearance in the classic film La Grande Vadrouille!).

A30-minute drive from Les Cabottes (and the road is splendid!)

2/ The Caves Patriarche in Beaune are a veritable oenological labyrinth, as they are the largest cellars in Burgundy. The tastings don’t have the charm of a small winegrower’s, but they do give you the chance to sample a wide variety of wines.

A 30-minute drive from Les Cabottes (and the road is still splendid!)

3/ La Karrière in Villars-Fontaine – the name says it all, as this former stone quarry has been converted into a venue for art, exhibitions and concerts. Like an open-air museum, a visit to la Karrière is unique and appeals to all ages.

40 minutes from Les Cabottes via the Route des Vins, which passes through some of the most beautiful wine-producing villages in the Côte de Nuits.

4/ Citeaux Abbey, for the architectural beauty of the site, which instantly transports you to another time, and the excellent educational guided tour. If you haven’t been there before, don’t forget to pop into the shop on your way out and take home the typical cheese made by the monks of the Abbey – we simply recommend that you ask to have it vacuum-packed 😉
